Corporate Accounting Assistant

Job Summary:
The Corporate Accounting Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting various aspects of accounting for The Michaels Organization. This position will assist in daily fiscal operations, including integration with client partnership accounting functions, and will be responsible for tasks such as reconciling ledger accounts, initiating and approving wires, and preparing monthly and yearly adjusting journal entries.
Responsibilities:
- Reconcile ledger accounts, note and report discrepancies found in records
- Initiate and approve wires, ACH, and book transfers
- Reconcile corporate bank statements
- Receive, record, and bank cash and checks
- Code documents according to company procedures
- Monitor daily activity of bank deposits, wires, transfers, and checks
- Prepare monthly and yearly adjusting journal entries
- Assist in preparation of audit schedules
- Maintain and update various financial schedules
- Process invoices and intercompany billings
- Invest 401(k) contributions each pay period
- Assist in month-end and year-end reporting for corporate management, as well as educational foundation, health plan, and retirement plan
- Maintain and update bookkeeping and tax credit fees
- Assist the corporate accountant and controller on special projects
- Perform research in response to management inquiries
Qualifications:
- 2-4 years of experience with bookkeeping and accounting duties
- High school diploma or equivalent; associate's degree in accounting preferred
- Ability to apply strong problem-solving techniques and analytical skills
- Proficient with MS Excel; knowledge of AS400, RealPage, and QuickBooks useful but not required
