Join Our Team as a Manager of Control Systems Engineering

The Reliability and Maintenance Engineering (RME) team is seeking a dedicated Manager of Control Systems Engineering. At Amazon, we embrace the philosophy that Every Day is still Day One, and we are committed to becoming the most customer-centric organization globally.

This role is centered around proactive automation controls and technical support for our fulfillment center operations, with a primary focus on enhancing equipment reliability and operational efficiency. The equipment you will oversee includes conveyors, sortation systems, scanners, cameras, print and apply systems, and SCADA devices and programs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan and coordinate work activities for Control Systems Technicians and Leads to achieve the objectives of the North America Customer Fulfillment teams.
  • Collaborate closely with building Operations, Operations Engineering, FC Start-up Team, AFT Software teams, ACES team, and Safety to support MHE systems optimization and project execution.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot material handling control systems, including PLC/PC controllers and industrial networks such as Ethernet, ControlNet, DeviceNet, Profibus, motor control systems, servo drives, frequency drives, and electrical distribution systems.
  • Monitor MHE metrics and partner with maintenance and operations teams to address system performance issues, providing comprehensive analysis across all operations.
  • Serve as the first level of escalation support for Control Systems Technicians and Leads, troubleshooting issues both locally and remotely, and repairing all hardware or control software systems within the facility.
  • Effectively escalate downtime situations to vendors or headquarters for assistance in restoring equipment functionality.
  • Mentor Control System Technicians and Control System Leads within your designated facility.
  • Facilitate Failure Analysis and Incident Review processes, implementing process improvements or retraining to prevent future occurrences.
  • Utilize your expertise in material handling and electronic systems to maximize the operational efficiency of systems.
  • Conduct and provide analysis on building System Assessments to evaluate material handling system performance.
  • Collaborate with other building Operations leadership, equipment vendors, and parts suppliers to plan and coordinate new technology installations, acting as the technical consultant for capital projects.
  • Leverage building network support resources for guidance and assistance, and provide support to peers as necessary.
  • Communicate technical issues and project timelines with building leadership, operations, and maintenance teams, clearly explaining production impacts.
  • Assist with skill assessments for technical positions within building operation maintenance teams.
  • Adapt to a flexible workload that may arise from management or other operational needs.
  • Participate in conference calls and coordinate with central teams to complete all required tasks.
  • Provide weekly site controls reliability information to central teams.
  • Travel requirements may include up to 20% post-launch and 50% or more pre-launch for various building launch and training tasks.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with electrical theory, robotics, control components, and automated equipment.
  • Proficiency in identifying, maintaining, troubleshooting, programming, and designing HMI and control network components.
  • Hands-on experience with industrial electrical systems, including 480V 3-phase, 110 VAC, and 24VDC systems.
  • Ability to interpret and modify mechanical and electrical drawings.
  • Familiarity with SCADA systems and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Experience with programming software such as RSLogix5000 studio and FT View.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to train and guide others.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and customer service skills.
  • Proven experience in remote technical support.
