Position Summary

We are in search of a meticulous and experienced Low Voltage Security Systems Designer to enhance our expanding portfolio within the federal sector. This role offers the flexibility of remote work with occasional travel to client sites and corporate offices.

Key Responsibilities

As a Low Voltage Security Systems Designer, your primary duties will include:

  • Developing engineering designs for federal programs, focusing on system architecture, product selection, and integration of hardware and software for electronic security systems.
  • Conducting site surveys before and after project awards.
  • Collaborating independently and within a team of engineers.
  • Designing physical security systems, including access control, CCTV, intrusion detection, and communication systems.
  • Assisting in the creation of cost proposals in response to client requests.
  • Producing network diagrams and conduit plans for low voltage systems and IP-based security devices.
  • Applying standard engineering techniques and making necessary adaptations and modifications.
  • Reviewing project scopes, bid drawings, and specifications to ensure comprehensive understanding of design requirements.
  • Creating detailed installation drawings that align with customer specifications and engineering budgets.
  • Generating and reviewing engineering drawing packages, wiring diagrams, and device schedules.
  • Providing guidance and clarification to installation teams.
  • Submitting Requests for Information (RFIs) to confirm design parameters.
  • Conducting security analyses and research to inform design concepts.
  • Performing site visits to assess existing conditions and ensure compatibility with proposed designs.
  • Preparing sketches for Security Designers to convert into final CAD drawings.
  • Reviewing and ensuring the accuracy of drawings prepared by Security Designers.
  • Creating as-built drawings based on field notes and coordinating with personnel to ensure accuracy.
  • Engaging with product vendors and consultants to stay informed on the latest security technologies.
  • Writing engineering narratives and operational concepts.
  • Traveling to client sites as necessary, up to 20% of the time.
Technical Skills Required

Expertise in electronic security systems, including:
  • FIPS-201-2, HSDP-12, FICAMS standards.
  • Designing integrated security systems for federal clients.
  • Physical Access Control Systems.
  • Video Management Systems.
  • Intrusion Detection Systems.
  • Networking design principles.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:
  • 5+ years of experience in low voltage security systems engineering or design, along with a High School Diploma or GED.
  • Alternatively, 3+ years of relevant experience with an Associate's Degree or higher in a related field.
  • Exceptional communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Capability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
  • A minimum of three years of engineering experience in electronic security system design.
  • Thorough understanding of physical security systems integration.
  • Familiarity with federal requirements for access control credential management.
  • Ability to work independently or collaboratively with minimal supervision.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and innovative thinking.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and project management tools.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Active security clearance.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Experience working with federal government projects.
