Job Description

**Job Summary**

The Greater Birmingham Humane Society Inc. is seeking an experienced and compassionate Animal Shelter Operations Manager to oversee the daily operations of our Pet Placement and Wellness Center. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the highest quality of care and humane treatment for all animals in our shelter.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Quality of Care: Collaborate with senior leadership to ensure high-quality care for animals, including managing behavior assessments, identifying enrichment opportunities, and maintaining optimal nutrition and feeding practices.
  • Population Management: Oversee the efficient flow of animals through the shelter, minimizing length of stay and coordinating with all departments and locations on animal transfers.
  • Management: Supervise and manage staff and volunteers, ensuring they meet the highest level of professionalism, customer service, and technical skill.
  • Leadership: Demonstrate leadership traits, including positivity, flexibility, effective problem-solving, and cooperation, while supporting the GBHS mission and promoting positive relationships between operations and leadership staff and volunteers.
  • Customer Service: Ensure an exemplary customer experience for all who interact with GBHS, including adopters, owner surrenders, transfer or rescue partners, vendors, donors, volunteers, and fosters.
  • Data/Record Keeping: Ensure the integrity of data for all records and reporting of all shelter animals, including file storage, metrics, and reporting to other agencies.
  • Budgeting: Maintain the budget for the Pet Placement and Wellness Center, tracking income and expenditures, and working with the Chief Program Officer to prepare the annual budget and projection figures.
  • Inventory/Supplies/Equipment: Approve the ordering of supplies, ensuring that appropriate supplies are available to staff and volunteers every day.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree, Master's degree preferred
  • 2 years of successful management experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Shelterluv, and ability to learn apps and other software as required
  • Achievement of Certified Animal Welfare Administrator (if not currently held, will be required within one year of employment)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of leadership techniques, principles, and procedures
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures relevant to animal shelters
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize organizational priorities, and meet deadlines
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
