**Job Summary**
The Greater Birmingham Humane Society Inc. is seeking an experienced and compassionate Animal Shelter Operations Manager to oversee the daily operations of our Pet Placement and Wellness Center. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the highest quality of care and humane treatment for all animals in our shelter.
Key Responsibilities:
- Quality of Care: Collaborate with senior leadership to ensure high-quality care for animals, including managing behavior assessments, identifying enrichment opportunities, and maintaining optimal nutrition and feeding practices.
- Population Management: Oversee the efficient flow of animals through the shelter, minimizing length of stay and coordinating with all departments and locations on animal transfers.
- Management: Supervise and manage staff and volunteers, ensuring they meet the highest level of professionalism, customer service, and technical skill.
- Leadership: Demonstrate leadership traits, including positivity, flexibility, effective problem-solving, and cooperation, while supporting the GBHS mission and promoting positive relationships between operations and leadership staff and volunteers.
- Customer Service: Ensure an exemplary customer experience for all who interact with GBHS, including adopters, owner surrenders, transfer or rescue partners, vendors, donors, volunteers, and fosters.
- Data/Record Keeping: Ensure the integrity of data for all records and reporting of all shelter animals, including file storage, metrics, and reporting to other agencies.
- Budgeting: Maintain the budget for the Pet Placement and Wellness Center, tracking income and expenditures, and working with the Chief Program Officer to prepare the annual budget and projection figures.
- Inventory/Supplies/Equipment: Approve the ordering of supplies, ensuring that appropriate supplies are available to staff and volunteers every day.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree, Master's degree preferred
- 2 years of successful management experience
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Shelterluv, and ability to learn apps and other software as required
- Achievement of Certified Animal Welfare Administrator (if not currently held, will be required within one year of employment)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of leadership techniques, principles, and procedures
- Knowledge of policies and procedures relevant to animal shelters
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize organizational priorities, and meet deadlines
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
