Job Summary

The Emergency Department Technician plays a vital role in providing high-quality patient care in a fast-paced environment. As a key member of the patient care team, this individual will assist registered nurses with delegated tasks, ensuring seamless delivery of care to patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with Patient Admission, Transfer, and Discharge: Ensure accurate and efficient processing of patient information, maintaining confidentiality and adhering to hospital policies.
  • Observe and Report Patient Status: Recognize changes in patient condition and promptly report to registered nurses, contributing to timely interventions and improved patient outcomes.
  • Escort Patients to Other Departments: Safely transport stable patients to other areas of the hospital, promoting continuity of care and patient satisfaction.
  • Maintain a Clean and Organized Environment: Ensure the patient care area is well-organized, adequately stocked, and safe, adhering to infection control and safety protocols.
  • Perform Special Procedures: Demonstrate competence in performing tasks such as venipuncture, splinting, and non-sterile dressing changes, under the supervision of registered nurses.
  • Assist with Emergency Department Procedures: Set up for procedures and assist registered nurses as directed, contributing to efficient and effective care delivery.
  • Operate Patient Monitoring Equipment: Safely operate equipment such as patient monitors, EKG machines, and glucometers, recording vital signs and other data as required.
  • Collect Laboratory Specimens: Collect and process laboratory specimens, ensuring accurate labeling and timely delivery to the laboratory.
  • Provide Excellent Customer Service: Demonstrate a commitment to customer service, greeting patients and families in a friendly and professional manner, and addressing their concerns and needs in a timely and respectful manner.
Requirements
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience: 1-2 years of patient care experience in an acute care hospital or military medic setting, or an Active EMT license in lieu of experience.
  • Certifications: Current BLS certification required; EMT Basic or EMT Intermediate license preferred or required in lieu of experience.
