Position Overview:

The Printing Press Technician is responsible for operating the printing press and managing the printing workflow to create high-quality custom-printed materials. This role involves ensuring that production meets or exceeds established standards while maintaining quality. The technician will minimize material waste and ensure the equipment operates at peak efficiency. A clean and organized workspace is essential, and teamwork is highly valued.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all jobs have marked samples as early as possible during production.
  • Verify load tickets and ensure all job-related information is accurately processed.
  • Monitor work quality throughout each job and report any issues to supervisors.
  • Complete all job-related documentation accurately, including counts and waste calculations.
  • Adhere to departmental quality control protocols.
  • Utilize quality control instruments such as densitometers and pH meters.
  • Maintain a logbook to track issues and solutions for other shifts.
  • Manage paper stock usage to remain within estimated amounts.
  • Calculate waste accurately to prevent discrepancies.
  • Maintain press speeds that meet or exceed quality standards.
  • Input accurate data into the data capture system and verify reports at the end of the shift.
  • Assist in training team members to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Propose improvements to systems and processes to boost productivity.
  • Ensure adequate materials are available to minimize downtime.
  • Communicate job-related information effectively across shifts.
  • Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on equipment.
  • Keep the work area and equipment clean and organized.
  • Ensure compliance with safety procedures and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Work overtime as necessary to meet production demands.
  • Carry out additional duties as required.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated loyalty and commitment to the organization.
  • Dependable attendance and adherence to company policies.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and interpret various instructions.
  • Proficient in basic math and able to interpret technical documents.
  • Experience with measuring tools and quality control equipment.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; experience as a press helper and 2-3 years as a press operator preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, walk, and lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts and occasional fumes.
  • Use of personal protective equipment as required.
