Position Overview:
The Press Operator is responsible for managing the printing machinery and overseeing the production process to deliver exceptional custom-printed materials. The role requires ensuring that production meets or surpasses established standards while maintaining high quality. Effective management of material usage and waste is essential, alongside ensuring that equipment operates at peak efficiency. A clean and organized workspace is a must, and collaboration with team members is encouraged.
Key Responsibilities:
- Verify that all jobs have sample markings as early as possible during production.
- Ensure accuracy of load tickets and completion of all job-related documentation, including final counts.
- Monitor work to maintain consistent quality and promptly report any issues to supervisors.
- Complete all job-related documentation accurately, including counts and waste calculations.
- Adhere to departmental quality control protocols.
- Utilize quality control instruments such as densitometers and pH meters.
- Maintain a logbook to document issues and solutions for future reference.
- Keep paper stock usage within estimated limits.
- Accurately calculate waste to avoid production discrepancies.
- Maintain press speeds that meet or exceed estimating standards without compromising quality.
- Input precise data into the data capture system and verify shift summary reports.
- Assist in training team members to enhance skills and improve overall team performance.
- Identify and implement process improvements to boost productivity and minimize waste.
- Ensure availability of materials to reduce downtime and prepare for the next shift.
- Use downtime effectively to enhance equipment performance.
- Communicate job and equipment information with other shifts through verbal updates and log entries.
- Conduct maintenance as per manufacturer guidelines.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the work area and equipment.
- Keep maintenance logs current.
- Ensure the press is consistently ready for optimal performance.
- Report necessary repairs and maintenance to supervisors.
- Perform minor repairs and regular maintenance as required.
- Allocate time at the end of shifts for cleanup and organization.
- Operate the ink mixing machine and manage ink conversions.
- Maintain cleanliness in the ink room and notify management of any quality issues.
- Follow all safety protocols and operate equipment safely.
- Promote safety awareness among colleagues.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA standards.
- Report any work-related injuries to supervisors.
- Adhere to lockout/tagout procedures.
- Store equipment safely when not in use.
- Identify and mitigate safety hazards.
- Manage attendance and punctuality effectively.
- Be available for overtime as needed to meet production demands.
- Perform additional duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated loyalty and commitment to the organization.
- Dependable attendance and adherence to company policies.
- Problem-solving skills and ability to interpret various instructions.
- Proficient in reading safety and operational documents.
- Mathematical skills for basic calculations and data interpretation.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent; experience as a press helper and 2-3 years as a press operator preferred.
- Familiarity with micrometers and other measurement tools.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, and use hands for extended periods.
- Occasional climbing, kneeling, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required for this role.
- Exposure to moving parts and potentially loud environments.
- Use of personal protective equipment as necessary.
