Position Summary


As a Clinical Laboratory Specialist, you will play a crucial role in delivering high-quality patient care within a laboratory setting, ensuring optimal safety and minimizing healthcare errors.

Your responsibilities will include verifying questionable results and repeating procedures as necessary.

Demonstrating proficiency across various laboratory disciplines, including blood banking, chemistry, hematology, microbiology, serology/immunology, urinalysis, and phlebotomy, is essential.

You will also perform routine phlebotomy services as required.


Adherence to departmental and organizational policies, as well as compliance with Critical Access Hospital standards, safety protocols, and all relevant federal and state regulations, is mandatory.


Key Responsibilities


- Conduct chemical analyses of body fluids, such as blood, urine, and spinal fluid, to identify normal and abnormal components.

- Evaluate laboratory findings to ensure accuracy.


- Input data from medical tests and clinical results into the computer system for record-keeping.


- Set up, operate, calibrate, clean, and maintain laboratory equipment for both quantitative and qualitative analyses.


- Develop and oversee quality assurance programs to guarantee the precision of laboratory results.


- Provide technical insights regarding test outcomes to physicians, patients, and their families.


- Collect and analyze blood samples to ascertain cell counts, morphology, blood group, and compatibility for transfusions.


- Manage laboratory equipment safely and effectively.


- Analyze biological samples for their chemical composition.


- Ensure accurate patient identification and proper labeling of all specimens.


- Perform high-complexity testing and respond appropriately to critical lab results.


- Prepare necessary reagents for daily operations and perform maintenance as needed.


- Maintain adequate supplies for testing procedures.


- Communicate critical lab values to nursing units and/or physicians with thorough documentation.


- Comply with current documentation standards and policies.


- Collaborate professionally with the Director of Laboratory, Pathologist, clinical laboratory staff, and other stakeholders.


- Present records and procedures to accrediting inspectors as required.


- Assist in compiling data for necessary reports in a timely manner.


- Review pending and outstanding reports during each shift and follow up on unresolved specimens.


- Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid licensing and certification.
  • Registry eligibility with completion of American Society for Clinical Pathology certification within 12 months of hire.
