Patient Transport Specialist

Overview:
This role entails the safe and efficient movement of patients, medical equipment, specimens, and documentation across the healthcare facility.
Key Responsibilities:
(50%)* Safely transport patients within the healthcare facility, including occasional trips to specialized centers. Responsible for moving preoperative and postoperative patients to and from surgical areas and recovery units. Facilitate patient discharges.
(25%)* Deliver supplies, medical equipment, specimens, and documentation throughout the facility.
(25%)* Operate as a dispatcher, prioritizing transportation requests while utilizing effective communication skills.
Additional Duties:
Perform tasks using computer systems.
Maintain accurate records of daily and monthly statistics.
In this role, access to medication and supply rooms is required for stocking purposes.
Adhere to Safety Protocols:
Ensure proper patient identification, safe transfer procedures, and maintain oxygen supplies. Follow universal precautions, ensure cleanliness of transport devices, uphold confidentiality, and document appropriately.
MyMichigan Health emphasizes technology proficiency, and employees are expected to demonstrate competency in Microsoft Windows.Participation in ongoing training and development opportunities may be required.
All other responsibilities as assigned.
Certifications and Licenses:
BLS - Basic Life Support
Required Equivalent Experience - Within 1 month of hire or transfer
TEAM ADVANCED - Techniques for Effective Aggression Management
Required Equivalent Experience - Within 6 months of hire or transfer (Employees in this position prior to the specified cutoff will have 24 months to complete this certification)

Training and Skills:
Proficiency in computer systems is required.
Effective communication with patients, families, and staff is essential.
Annual completion of Mandatory Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) training is required according to the Exposure Control Plan.
Strong organizational and computer skills are necessary, with the ability to prioritize tasks.
Excellent customer service skills are required, with a preference for strong interpersonal skills.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
Ability to manage stressful situations, including public interactions, trauma, grief, and loss.
Must be able to wear personal protective equipment as required.
Must be capable of moving freely throughout the facility with or without assistance and perform job functions as outlined.
Frequent sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods are required. May involve frequent postural changes such as bending or crouching.
Some exposure to bloodborne pathogens and other potentially infectious materials is expected. Compliance with MyMichigan Health's bloodborne pathogen and TB testing requirements is mandatory.
Ability to multitask, collaborate with others, work independently, maintain regular attendance, and stay alert is essential.
Physical Demand Level:
Heavy.
Must be able to occasionally lift or carry specified weights, frequently manage heavier loads, and engage in various physical activities as required.
