The Pre-analytical Specialist at Covenant HealthCare demonstrates exceptional customer service skills, consistently adhering to the organization's Vision, Mission, and Values. This individual possesses documented training in the pre-analytical phase of patient testing and limited waived laboratory testing, ensuring proficiency in specimen collection, handling, processing, and transport.
Under the supervision of the Medical Technologist, this specialist performs training and competency documentation for limited laboratory testing, proper instrument use, and performance of preventative maintenance and quality control policies. The Laboratory Medical Director authorizes the performance of waived analytical procedures.
Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates excellent customer service, contributing to organization success targets for patient satisfaction and net operating margin.
- Assists in the training of new employees under direct control of the General Supervisor.
- Performs all necessary clerical duties, including answering telephones, filing, scheduling, computerized order entry, collection of draw or test fees, and registration of patient orders, while maintaining excellent customer service.
- Maintains proper communication with physicians, laboratory personnel, coworkers, supervision, and administration.
- Collects all specimens by venipuncture, skin puncture, nasopharyngeal and throat swabs, and other approved collection methods, upon physician order in a timely fashion utilizing proper technique.
- Verifies collection information on computer and follows laboratory procedures for the processing and transportation of all laboratory specimens with all necessary documentation included.
- Complies with all Covenant and Laboratory policies, procedures, and safety practices.
- Performs EKGs and additional clinical testing, as determined and approved by Laboratory Manager, following proper procedures and protocols.
Other information:
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: College level Biology or Chemistry, Computer Applications, strong verbal and communication skills, and a valid driver's license with reliable transportation.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: High School education or equivalent, completion of a NACCLS approved or two-part formal phlebotomy program, and ASCP Phlebotomy certification within 6 months of hire or with one year of experience for route #2 of the ASCP certification.
