Job Description

Arlington Transit Management is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Operations Supervisor to join our team. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our fixed route services, providing supervision, counseling, and coaching to assigned drivers, and maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Monitor the roll out of vehicles, ensuring proper communication with drivers and maintaining buses in clean and mechanical order.
  • Drive assigned routes to ensure buses are on schedule, bus stop signs are in place, and monitor on-road operations.
  • Investigate and report on accidents and incidents, taking action as required to resolve problems and maintain service schedules.
  • Bring replacement buses or vans to the scene of breakdowns to transport passengers or continue routes.
  • Check for detours and traffic conditions, determine the most effective alternative route, and report information to dispatchers and drivers.
  • Handle accident investigations and sit on an accident/incident review committee, preparing first reports of injury and incident reports, and determining when medical attention is required.
  • Represent the organization to the community and customers, responding to inquiries and investigating complaints about signs, benches, or other related field issues.
  • Clean up waste spills created by buses.
  • Open and close the division, ensuring the security of premises.
  • Conduct roll-in procedures, including bus inspections to detect damage, receive defect slips from drivers, and review requirements to issue repairs to maintenance.
  • Monitor and ensure the accuracy of "Extra Board" assignments and provide procedural direction to dispatchers engaged in "Extra Board" work assignments.
  • Contribute recommendations for changes to methods and processes based on customer, community, driver, and vehicle requirements.
  • Control special event and community service movements, providing oversight and resolving problems, and participate in scheduling drivers and vehicles for special events and oversee their participation.
  • Train new employees in classroom and on-road activities, including defensive driving, bus operation, and commercial driver's license requirements.
  • Conduct commercial driver's license testing as required, assist with the screening of drivers, applicants, and recommend candidates for consideration.
  • Prepare performance evaluations, counseling, and coaching of assigned employees and contribute information to management for performance review of dispatchers.
  • Conduct on-board evaluations of drivers, driving skills, safety issues, and interaction with the public, prepare documentation of observations, and communicate observations to drivers through formal processes.
  • Prepare reports to document activities, problems, and exceptions, such as road calls, complaints, and accidents.
  • Escort employees for drug tests as a result of accidents to random selection, monitor employee attendance, prepare employee attendance records and reports, determine compliance with policy by individual employees, and submit for review by management.
  • Counsel employees regarding attendance and issue warning letters as required, post and schedule driver vacations in accordance with sign-up procedures, and may be responsible for scheduling drivers.
  • Receive and process employee exception time sheets, total hours, and authorize exceptions.
  • May be utilized to drive revenue hours when necessary.
  • Must operate in compliance with Company's EEO policies and procedures.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalency.
  • Must have a valid clean Driver's License for at least seven (7) years.
  • Obtain Texas Class B Commercial Driver's License with Passenger Endorsement and Airbrakes.
  • Must pass a physical examination, including a drug and alcohol screen, and back evaluation.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, with physical activity including driving company vehicles, operating radio, headsigns, and computer keyboard, handling, holding, lifting passenger packages, hearing passengers' requests, locking, opening, climbing, balancing, bending, squatting, twisting, rotating, kneeling, vision (both near and far), speaking/signaling, reaching, pulling/pushing, sliding left-sided window at driver's seat, mirrors to adjust inside/outside of vehicle, destination sign, sun visor, levers/buttons/switches needed to operate bus/make adjustments to parts of bus during pre-trip inspection, lap seat belt, bus seats up/down to access wheelchair areas on wheelchair-accessible buses, emergency hatch to open and close in case of an emergency, spring releases underneath seats, occasional pushing of wheelchair of at least 100 pounds, reaching below waist, waist to shoulder, above shoulder, repetitive motion of wrists, hands, arms, and/or fingers, unlocking while operating various switches and door handles, operating lift, removing items left on the bus by passengers, seeing that passengers are seated before moving bus into traffic, sitting on seat while driving, standing, walking to operate wheelchair lift, talking to answer passenger questions and to announce destination stops, turning pages of route manual, and writing to document accidents, incidents, vehicle defects, etc.
