About the Role

The Hunger Advocacy Fellow will embark on a transformative year-long experience that integrates leadership growth and spiritual development with significant advocacy efforts aimed at eradicating hunger and fostering a just society where everyone has access to nourishment.

This role involves working closely with Kansas Interfaith Action, serving as a full-time contract employee within this ELCA-affiliated state public policy office. The position offers a competitive hourly wage along with comprehensive benefits, including health insurance.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Advocacy Engagement: Cultivate a Lutheran state advocacy network by empowering community members to advocate against hunger. Collaborate with congregational ministries to provide resources for ethical deliberation and faith-driven advocacy.
  2. Communications: Develop and disseminate action alerts, position papers, and educational materials to inform the advocacy network and lawmakers about hunger-related priorities.
  3. Representation: Engage in ecumenical coalitions advocating for public policy aligned with ELCA's mission. Represent the advocacy network in discussions with state lawmakers and policy leaders.
  4. Leadership Development: Participate in collective faith formation and leadership development initiatives with ELCA's broader network and fellow advocates across the country.
  5. Collaborate with the state public policy office director to identify additional responsibilities as needed.
  6. Other duties as assigned.

  7. Excellent research, writing, and communication abilities.
  8. Awareness of social issues impacting communities and sensitivity to diverse perspectives.

Physical Requirements

This position requires regular communication and the ability to operate a computer and phone. It may involve attending meetings and events in various locations.

Travel Requirements

Minimal travel may be required, including occasional overnight trips.
