The Role

Position Overview

The Chief Financial Officer is accountable for the formulation and management of the credit union's fiscal and financial systems, ensuring adherence to State and Federal regulations and GAAP. This role involves planning, directing, organizing, and supervising the financial operations and investments of the credit union in line with established policies. Responsibilities include developing, implementing, and maintaining accounting systems, practices, controls, and procedures, as well as managing accounting and procurement functions. The CFO will also provide leadership and oversight for the Coast Central Retirement and Investment Planning program and will be a key member of the Senior Management Team.

Core Responsibilities

  • Develop the annual business plan budget and income/ALM simulation forecasts to support the Strategic Plan.
  • Set pricing for the products offered to members.
  • Conduct financial analysis and provide recommendations to meet financial objectives.
  • Ensure the accuracy of financial reports to the Board and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Recommend and manage investments; devise and recommend investment strategies.
  • Oversee Accounting Department activities and financial support functions.
  • Manage the recruitment, training, performance evaluation, and motivation of assigned staff.
  • Oversee insurance coverage for the credit union.
  • Proactively manage the credit union's balance sheet to safeguard net worth and liquidity.
  • Collaborate with other Senior Management Team members to develop and implement credit union objectives and programs.
  • Stay informed about laws and regulations impacting the credit union.
  • Execute additional responsibilities and projects as assigned.

The Ideal Candidate

Qualifications and Experience

  • A Bachelor's Degree in business, finance, or accounting (or a related field) with at least 10 years of experience in finance, accounting, and management, including a minimum of five years in a financial institution role. Relevant credit union experience may substitute for a degree.
  • Ability to comprehend and respond to complex verbal and written communications.
  • Visual and mental acuity to read and understand printed materials.
  • Proficient in using office equipment, including computers and keyboards.
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills for developing budgets and conducting cost/benefit analyses.
  • Capability to sit and/or stand for extended periods.

Skills and Competencies

The role requires a blend of proven knowledge and experience in finance, accounting, and management, along with an understanding of credit union operations. Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with others are essential. Computer literacy is required, and a professional demeanor is expected.

Education
