Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Patient Care Coordinator I to join our dynamic team at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center. As a key member of our team, you will act as a professional liaison for patients and families, care providers, and other departments, utilizing critical thinking skills to facilitate and operationalize complex scheduling requests.

Key Responsibilities
  • Scheduling and Coordination: Schedules all patient appointments related to treatment within Fred Hutch, as well as outside consults and referrals, and communicates schedule directly to patients. Coordinates scheduling with other departments to ensure efficient patient flow.
  • Patient Support and Communication: Works closely with patients, families, visitors, providers, and staff to identify needs, answer questions, resolve problems, provide information, and follow up.
  • Administrative Tasks: Updates patient and caregiver contact information in EHR when needed, communicates with providers regarding patient scheduling needs, treatment schedule, and additional requests, and notifies appropriate parties as needed.
  • Scheduling Request Management: Manages and prioritizes scheduling requests, recognizes emergency situations, and initiates correct code procedures.
  • Department Support: Supports the overall function of the department, may be required to take on additional duties such as cross coverage, special projects, and assists with the training of new staff.
  • Financial Clearance and Registration: Assists with the financial clearance process as necessary, collects and enters patient demographic and insurance information, and enters into registration databases.
  • Commercial Cell Therapy Portal Access: Coordinates Commercial Cell Therapy Portal Access (IMTX).
  • Work Distribution: Distributes work to the Program Assistant and/or Patient Care Coordinator Assistant as appropriate.
Requirements
  • Education: High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Ability to communicate verbally in person, on the phone, and in writing in a clear and concise manner, and to work independently, organize, and prioritize concurrent responsibilities and demands.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in the use of word processing (MS Word), email, and data entry in a Windows-based environment.
  • Customer Service and Problem-Solving Skills: Demonstrated customer service skills, ability to solve complex problems, and meet patient needs.
  • Attention to Detail and Time Management: Ability to review work to identify and eliminate errors and omissions, and to work in a high-pressure, deadline-oriented, and complex healthcare environment.
  • Active Listening and Relationship Building: Active listening skills, ability to build relationships while maintaining appropriate boundaries, and coping skills.
  • Issue Identification and Triage: Ability to identify and triage issues appropriately, and attention to detail to ensure scheduling accuracy.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree (BA or BS).
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in a patient care setting.
  • Technical Skills: Experience with Epic or other scheduling and registration software.
