Job Summary

This is a challenging opportunity to work as a Water Treatment Plant Operator for the U.S. Marine Corps. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for the operation of a Class II water treatment plant with a rated capacity of 3.17 MGD.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor and control the water treatment systems, including chemical addition, coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, chlorination, filtration, pH control, and fluoridation.
  • Analyze present and anticipated raw water quality, evaluate test results, and adjust chemical feed rates, filtration rates, and other parameters to maintain operations within established limits.
  • Perform duties related to monitoring and controlling the water supply and finished water-pumping operations.
Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
  • New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
  • Must possess and maintain an appropriate Virginia State Water Treatment Plant Operator Class I or II Certification by the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation.
  • Incumbent is required to work on a rotating shift basis 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
  • Work conditions require the employee to drive a government motor vehicle.
  • Emergency recall and overtime may be required.
  • Must be able to safely and properly wear all personal protective equipment, including respiratory protection (respirator), required of the trade/shop.
  • The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • A pre-employment physical is required.
  • The position is subject to random drug testing.

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: the ability to do the work of the position without normal supervision in monitoring and controlling the water treatment systems that includes chemical addition, coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, chlorination, filtration, pH control, and fluoridation, and maintain adequate potable water supplies for firefighting and personal use.
