Position Summary:
The Dermatology Support Specialist plays a crucial role in the patient care process by managing patient intake, maintaining accurate medical records, and assisting healthcare providers during clinical procedures. This role emphasizes delivering a warm, respectful, and professional experience to all patients, ensuring high levels of satisfaction for both patients and the practice.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct patient intake and verify medication histories.
  • Assist in patient treatment plans, including the preparation and administration of medications under provider supervision.
  • Perform various clinical tasks such as suture removals, blood draws, TB skin tests, urine pregnancy tests, and injections.
  • Prepare patients for examinations and medical tests.
  • Support healthcare providers during medical evaluations, surgical procedures, and cosmetic treatments.
  • Accurately document patient information, treatment plans, and prescriptions in the Electronic Medical Records system.
  • Educate patients and their families on post-treatment care, medication effects, and procedural protocols.
  • Ensure sterilization of medical instruments and maintain cleanliness in examination areas.
  • Manage inventory of medical supplies and prepare examination rooms for patient visits.
  • Adhere to OSHA standards and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Protect patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Exhibit exceptional customer service and patient care skills.
  • Engage in staff meetings and contribute to organizational initiatives.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education:
High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience:
1-3 years in a medical office setting preferred.

Knowledge:
Understanding of basic nursing principles, infection control policies, and patient confidentiality protocols.

Skills:
Proficiency in phlebotomy and patient assessment techniques. Ability to apply universal precautions and maintain a safe, confidential environment. Competence in health information management through accurate patient data entry.

Abilities:
Collaborate effectively with healthcare teams, respond calmly in emergencies, and interact positively with patients and their families. Adapt to changing demands, prioritize tasks, and communicate clearly. Completion of a Certified Dermatology Technician course within the first 90 days of employment is required.

Working Environment:
This position involves a mix of office and clinical settings, with potential exposure to communicable diseases and other health-related hazards.

Physical and Mental Requirements:
The role requires various physical activities, including standing, walking, reaching, and lifting. Candidates must be capable of handling patients and using office equipment, with occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds. The position may involve working under pressure.
