About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Testing Technician III to join our team at Blue Origin. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for organizing and executing plans to perform mechanical tests of materials using a variety of laboratory tests and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical tests, including tensile, compression, fatigue, bend and wear testing per requests and instructions provided by internal customers
  • Analyze, document, and communicate results to stakeholders
  • Work with engineers to develop test plans to meet material testing goals
  • Demonstrate strict attention to details in executing laboratory analyses
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and facilities
  • Safely work with hazardous systems containing chemicals, heat, high pressure, and stored energy

Qualifications

  • Passion for our mission: Millions of people living and working in space
  • 5+ years proficient experience operating mechanical testing equipment, including load frames and wear testing equipment
  • Basic engineering laboratory skills: weights and measures, chemical hygiene, materials safety planning, personal protective equipment, contamination control, job hazard analysis, and work instructions
  • Strong written and computer skills
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Desired

  • Familiarity with industry materials testing standards (ASTM E8, ASTM E21, etc.)
  • Familiarity with typical aerospace testing and quality processes (AS9100, FOD Control, Lean, 5S, etc.)
  • Knowledge of the types of materials and processes used to fabricate aerospace components
  • Ability to operate manual machine tools (saws, mills, etc.)
  • Must be physically able to work with and around chemicals and other hazardous materials
  • Able to design fixtures and tools using CREO, Solidworks, CATIA or equivalent software
