Mechanical Engineer III: Composite Design Expert

We're seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer III to join our team at Blue Origin. As a key member of our composite design team, you will be responsible for the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle.

Your expertise in composite design and analysis will be crucial in crafting, installing, modifying, analyzing, repairing, and testing mechanical systems hardware with an emphasis on composite structures.

You will collaborate with internal team members to define requirements, dependencies, and schedule needs associated with delivering mechanical systems hardware. Additionally, you will work with the manufacturing and M&P team to ensure manufacturability of new hardware.

Responsibilities:

  • Apply engineering techniques to design, develop, and test fluid systems for various spaceflight systems.
  • Collaborate with internal team members to define requirements, dependencies, and schedule needs associated with delivering mechanical systems hardware.
  • Work with manufacturing and M&P team to ensure manufacturability of new hardware.
  • Support build startup at vendors or internally, including tooling reviews.
  • Review build documentation to ensure compliance to hardware requirements.
  • Disposition nonconformance during production.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering or relevant field from ABET accredited school.
  • 4+ years of experience with design and analysis, especially with composite structures.
  • Familiarity with composites and related materials (prepregs, fibers, resins, cores, adhesives, coatings, etc.).
  • Hands-on experience, including composite fabrication experience.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills to balance small and large projects with a diverse group of customers.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with composite aircraft, launch vehicle, spacecraft, or satellite design and development.
  • Experience with polymer based composite part development and qualification.
  • Experience with nonconformance disposition.
  • Experience working with external vendors.

Compensation range for on-site WA applicants: $111,690.00-$156,366.00. Other site ranges may differ.
