Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Sterile Processing Technician to join our team at Geisinger Community Medical Center. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will be responsible for ensuring the preparation, care, and sterilization of medical and surgical instruments, packs, supplies, and equipment.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and sterilize medical and surgical instruments, packs, supplies, and equipment
  • Collect and sort used and contaminated equipment, instruments, and supplies for decontamination
  • Manually clean supplies of contaminants, remove waste matter, and operate and maintain decontamination equipment
  • Prepare and pack decontaminated supplies for sterilization
  • Monitor and operate sterilization equipment
  • Examine supplies meticulously to ensure proper cleaning and sanitizing
  • Test and report any issues or problems with sterilization equipment
  • Sterilize, prepare, wrap, and organize equipment into instrument trays for use during medical procedures
  • Prepare and deliver necessary equipment and instruments for surgeries, examinations, medical procedures, and medical carts
  • Maintain records of sterilization procedures, sterilized items, equipment maintenance, and supplies
  • Control inventory, reorder supplies, and check expiration dates
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED)
  • Minimum of 2 years of related work experience
  • Certification as a Sterile Processing Technician (HSPA or CBSPD)
