Job Summary

As a Cardiac Catheterization Specialist, you will provide technical assistance to performing physicians during diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterizations, structural heart procedures, and other related procedures. Your responsibilities will include direct patient care during procedures, management of hemostasis post-procedure, and meeting the qualifications to provide care for patients in the specific age range in your assigned laboratory.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist physicians with adult and pediatric cardiac catheterizations, including procedures such as myocardial biopsy, transluminal coronary angioplasty and stenting, rotational atherectomy, temporary pacemaker insertion, pericardiocentesis, Swan-Ganz catheter insertion, cardiac assist device insertion, percutaneous valvuloplasty, percutaneous valve implantation, peripheral vascular diagnostic and interventional procedures.
  • Practice sterile technique, preparing for procedures, including scrubbing, applying surgical gowns, gloving, draping, and setup of instrument tables.
  • Perform emergency therapeutic maneuvers during procedures and initiate life support techniques in the event of a cardiac and respiratory arrest, including CPR, defibrillation, temporary pacemaker insertion, and airway management.
  • Assist with ongoing clinical research trials pertinent to the cardiac catheterization laboratory and record, monitor, and assess hemodynamic data collected during catheterizations.
  • Responsible for primary and secondary hemostasis during and after procedures and operate and ensure the quality control of hemodynamic recording devices, fluoroscopy and cine-angiographic x-ray equipment, oxygen consumption equipment, and blood analysis equipment.
  • Exhibit extensive knowledge of all related equipment within the catheterization laboratory and assist with the training and orientation of students, techs, cardiology fellows, and cardiac catheterization technologists new to the department.
  • Prepare arterial lines, perform appropriate billing for services rendered or equipment used as related to cardiac catheterization, and collect and analyze arterial and venous blood samples, including specimens sent to laboratory, blood gases, and saturations.
  • Participate in Joint Commission-mandated educational programs and work is typically performed in a clinical environment.

Requirements:

  • Graduate from Specialty Training Program (Required)
  • Associate's Degree - Healthcare Related Degree (Preferred)
  • Experience: Certification(s) and License(s): Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification - American Heart Association (AHA), Basic Life Support Certification - Default Issuing Body, Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) within 6 months - Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI)
