North Mississippi Health Services is in search of a per diem Medical Technologist to join our dedicated team.

Position Overview:
This role is designed for professionals who can work on an as-needed basis, providing essential laboratory services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervision: Oversee the workflow of phlebotomists in the Specimen Processing area.
  • Leadership: Act as the Charge Medical Technologist in the absence of the supervisor or Lead MT.
  • Logistics: Ensure the precise and timely transportation of laboratory supplies, equipment, and specimens.
  • Compliance: Adhere to all relevant laws and regulations regarding laboratory specimen processing and transportation.
  • Specimen Management: Follow established guidelines for the handling and processing of laboratory specimens, ensuring accurate patient identification and labeling.
  • Communication: Maintain effective communication with all staff, patients, and their families.
  • Customer Service: Employ AIDET principles and participate in CARES training to enhance patient interactions.
  • Team Collaboration: Work cohesively with all Pathology and NMHS employees.
  • Documentation: Ensure timely and accurate reporting of department testing and maintain necessary records.
  • Education: Assist in training new employees and students, while engaging in continuing education to enhance skills.
  • Regulatory Adherence: Comply with NMHS/NMMC policies and local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Qualifications: A Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Biological Science, or a related field is required. ASCP Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist is required within 12 months of graduation from an accredited program.

Additional Requirements:
Valid Mississippi Driver's License and a good driving record are preferred. Proficiency with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) is essential, along with strong organizational and communication skills. Knowledge of safe handling of biohazardous specimens is required.
