Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) is on the lookout for a distinguished and driven professional to lead its RNA Therapeutics Laboratory. This role is pivotal in spearheading research and development activities within the newly formed Center for Cancer Vaccines, a cornerstone of MSK's advancements in immuno-oncology.
Key Responsibilities:
- Direct the establishment of a comprehensive mRNA vaccine development pipeline, including optimization of vaccine platforms and ensuring GMP manufacturing for clinical applications.
- Oversee the design and development of RNA vaccines, focusing on enhancements to mRNA templates, structural integrity, stability, and production techniques such as in vitro transcription and lipid nanoparticle encapsulation.
- Manage quality control processes for RNA vaccines, collaborating with research teams to create and refine analytical assays that assess the quality and effectiveness of mRNA products.
- Facilitate the transfer of these assays to the GMP-Therapeutics Core Facility, providing collaborative support for vaccine production.
- Lead and mentor laboratory personnel, fostering a productive and innovative research environment.
- Define the strategic scientific direction of the laboratory, aligning emerging technologies with the needs of MSK's scientific community.
- Oversee operational aspects, including advanced method development and scientific consultations, to maintain a cutting-edge laboratory.
- Manage financial and human resources, including recruitment, training, and professional development of staff.
- Collaborate closely with the MSK GMP-Therapeutics Core Facility to ensure alignment with institutional strategic objectives, reporting to the director of the Cancer Vaccine Center.
- Ph.D. in immunology, cell biology, biochemistry, biophysics, or a related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in either academic or commercial settings.
- Proven expertise in experimental mRNA vaccine biology and the clinical development of GMP-grade mRNA vaccines; experience in assay development is highly desirable.
- Strong background in mRNA customization, synthesis, and purification techniques.
- In-depth knowledge of mRNA-LNP platforms, cGMP processes, and analytical panel development; familiarity with IND applications is a plus.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Experience in managing laboratory teams and overseeing daily operations is crucial.
- A seasoned scientist with a keen eye for detail and strong decision-making capabilities.
- A proactive learner and problem-solver, adept at identifying and addressing data anomalies.
- Skilled in multitasking and prioritizing tasks to meet objectives in a dynamic work environment.
