This position is a 6-month contract-to-hire opportunity, with the potential for conversion to a permanent role.

This role is open to fully remote candidates.

The selected candidate will work closely with the Director of Engineering, taking charge of the design and execution of mechanical systems for both commercial and industrial refrigeration.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide on-site engineering support for the installation of industrial ammonia and central refrigeration systems, as well as commercial split systems.
  • Review and approve vendor submittal drawings to ensure compliance with design intent and contractual obligations.
  • Evaluate engineering drawings and designs to verify adherence to established specifications and project/client standards.
  • Assist in the creation of 2D and 3D CAD/BIM drawings and documentation from sketches, existing drawings, and standard details for refrigeration, HVAC, piping, and control systems.
  • Contribute to bid and proposal development in collaboration with the Sales team.
  • Conduct layout and dimensioning of equipment locations, pipe and ductwork routing, and support systems to avoid interferences and optimize installation efficiency.
  • Generate accurate 'As-Built' drawings from field mark-ups upon project completion and review drawings produced by other engineering personnel.
  • Perform system calculations, including system load calculations and ammonia relief vent systems.
  • Conduct heat transfer and thermodynamic analyses related to the sizing and selection of refrigeration equipment, piping, and control valves.
  • Develop P&ID's, flow diagrams, equipment schedules, plans, and specifications for refrigeration systems.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • A minimum of 7-10 years of experience in HVAC design, particularly with plant chillers and air handling units, along with a focus on industrial refrigeration systems (Ammonia, DX refrigeration, and trans-critical CO2 systems preferred).
  • Current Professional Engineer (P.E.) certification in one or more New England states is preferred.
  • Proficiency in drafting/design software, such as CAD.
  • Ability to create, interpret, and analyze construction drawings and P&ID's.
  • Extensive knowledge of construction equipment, techniques, drawings, and specifications.
  • Thorough understanding of building materials, engineering standards, and codes.
