Maris Consulting Group℠ is seeking a Senior HVAC Systems Engineer to contribute to our esteemed client, a leading entity in the commercial HVAC and refrigeration sector.

This position is a 6-month contract-to-hire opportunity, transitioning to a permanent role.

This role is available for fully remote engineers.

The selected candidate will work closely with the Director of Engineering, taking charge of the design and execution of mechanical systems for both commercial and industrial refrigeration.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide on-site engineering assistance during the installation of industrial ammonia and central refrigeration systems, as well as commercial split systems. Design HVAC systems for various commercial and industrial applications.
  • Review and approve vendor submittal drawings to ensure compliance with design specifications and contractual obligations.
  • Examine engineering drawings and designs to verify adherence to established standards, project scope, and client specifications.
  • Assist in creating 2D and 3D CAD/BIM drawings and documentation from sketches, existing designs, and standard details related to refrigeration, HVAC, piping, and control systems.
  • Play a pivotal role in the development of bids and proposals in collaboration with the Sales team.
  • Conduct layout and dimensioning of equipment placements, pipe and ductwork routing, and support systems to avoid interferences with other components and maximize installation efficiency.
  • Help produce accurate 'As-Built' drawings based on field mark-ups upon project completion, and review drawings prepared by other engineering staff.
  • Perform system calculations, including load calculations, ammonia relief vent systems, and charge assessments.
  • Conduct heat transfer and thermodynamic analyses for the sizing and selection of refrigeration equipment, piping, and control valves.
  • Develop P&ID's, flow diagrams, equipment schedules, and specifications for refrigeration systems.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • A minimum of 7-10 years of experience in HVAC design, particularly with plant chillers, air handling units, and construction projects. Experience with industrial refrigeration systems (Ammonia, DX refrigeration, and trans-critical CO2 systems) is preferred.
  • Current Professional Engineer (P.E.) certification in one or more New England states is highly desirable. Support for reinstatement of P.E. can be provided if necessary.
  • Proficiency in drafting and design software, particularly CAD.
  • Ability to create, interpret, and analyze construction drawings and P&ID's.
  • Extensive knowledge of construction equipment, techniques, drawings, and specifications.
  • In-depth understanding of building materials, engineering standards, and codes.
