Chicago, Illinois, United States Illinois Action for Children Full time

$2,000 Hiring Bonus for external candidates (50% after 90 days of employment and 50% after one year of employment).

Illinois Action for Children (IAFC) has been a prominent entity in the early childhood care and education landscape for over 50 years. Our initiatives, services, and advocacy efforts aim to enhance learning and life outcomes for children and families, particularly in mitigating the impacts of poverty. We strive to ensure that every child in Illinois, especially those in vulnerable situations, has access to essential resources for success in both education and life.

Aligned with our mission, IAFC is dedicated to fostering a diverse, equitable, inclusive, and anti-racist culture. We are committed to this principle through our hiring practices and our efforts to cultivate an environment where diverse perspectives, ideas, and identities are valued and integrated into our operations and service delivery. Our staff reflects a wide array of racial, socio-economic, gender, religious, and national identities. We welcome all applicants who resonate with our mission and vision to join us in our vital work.

Under the guidance of the Site Director, the Family Support Advocate establishes and nurtures supportive and empowering relationships with families from the moment of enrollment. This role involves collaborating with families to evaluate their needs, set goals, and access suitable resources. The Family Support Advocate will be instrumental in engaging parents in leadership roles and empowering them as advocates for their families. This position requires adherence to our core workplace capabilities: accountability, customer focus, continuous quality improvement, communication, competent personnel, and clear priorities. All tasks are to be performed with minimal supervision and in alignment with organizational standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop authentic and supportive relationships with each family, starting at enrollment.
  • Collaborate with families to identify their needs and establish ambitious goals.
  • Maintain a manageable caseload of fewer than 100 families at any given time.
  • Conduct family needs assessments within required timelines and document all interactions using the COPA database.
  • Follow up with prospective families, providing information and coordinating site tours.
  • Gather necessary health and nutrition data from families and work with the Health Coordinator to assist families in accessing required medical/dental services.
  • Facilitate the enrollment process with families and support them in obtaining any missing documentation.
  • Actively engage in recruitment and outreach activities in partnership with the Early Learning Recruitment Specialist.
  • Work alongside the Mental Health and Disabilities Coordinator to facilitate referrals for mental health services or evaluations for children with suspected special needs.
  • Implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with parent involvement and program governance requirements.
  • Collaborate with the Parent Involvement Coordinator to develop ongoing training and involvement plans for parents/guardians.
  • Encourage and support parent/guardian engagement in Parent Committees and Policy Council.
  • Represent IAFC to external groups to promote the agency and enhance service utilization.
  • Ensure confidentiality of parent and provider information managed by IAFC.
  • Execute our core workplace capabilities effectively.
  • Independently manage multiple tasks in support of the department.

Qualifications:

To excel in this role, candidates must demonstrate the ability to fulfill each essential duty satisfactorily. The following qualifications are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Early Childhood Education, Family Studies, or a closely related field.
  • Two years of experience in a caseworker or similar role.
  • Prior experience working with children and families.
  • Valid driver's license, reliable personal transportation, and insurance are required.

Illinois Action for Children is an EEO/M/F/V/D employer. While this job posting aims to be comprehensive, all aspects of the position may be amended at any time at the discretion of IAFC, including job duties and work schedule.

Salary: $43,800 (minimum) plus $2,000 Hiring Bonus (50% after 90 days of employment and 50% after one year of employment).
