General Overview

The Project Engineer I collaborates closely with engineering teams and program managers to facilitate the design and implementation of avionics systems within aircraft structures. This role is essential in orchestrating and overseeing engineering activities, which encompass the creation of electrical schematics, harness fabrication drawings, engineering documentation, and testing protocols. The position also involves assisting program managers and project coordinators in organizing meetings and managing deliverables.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and coordinate engineering initiatives across various projects, ensuring the effective integration of aviation systems and components.
  • Ensure project scope and budget align with the statement of work (SOW) and client specifications.
  • Identify and evaluate project risks, implementing proactive strategies to mitigate potential challenges.
  • Provide precise and timely completion estimates for ongoing projects, ensuring compliance with established deadlines.
  • Prioritize project tasks based on urgency, significance, and resource availability.
  • Engage actively in technical meetings and reviews, contributing insights and expertise to improve project results.
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to create Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM) and Basis of Estimate (BOE) documents.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication with clients, program managers, and stakeholders to address concerns and provide regular updates on project status.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Associate's degree or equivalent experience (4 years relevant experience in lieu of degree).
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in aviation integration projects, ideally with exposure to government contracts.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is highly desirable.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a proactive approach to addressing project challenges.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, capable of managing multiple projects concurrently.
  • Ability to interpret and understand engineering drawings.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing project requirements and priorities.
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Government Security Clearance.

  • Ability to walk and stand on level and/or inclined surfaces for extended periods.
  • Capability to climb stairs, ramps, ladders, and work stands, including working at heights with fall protection devices.
  • Ability to crouch, crawl, grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbow/knee, and reach above/below shoulders.
  • May need to lift up to 50 pounds and carry for short distances.
  • Must be able to distinguish colors and judge three-dimensional depth.
  • Typically works in an office environment with controlled temperature.
