GENERAL SUMMARY:

Tyonek Native Corporation is committed to addressing challenges faced by our defense forces. We are looking for a dedicated professional to fill the role of a Senior Mechanical Engineer. In this pivotal position, you will contribute significantly to our aircraft integration initiatives. Leveraging your mechanical engineering skills, you will be responsible for designing and implementing the integration of avionics and weapon systems across various vehicle platforms for clients, including the U.S. Department of Defense and other military and commercial organizations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Encourage innovative thinking and flexibility in problem-solving.
  • Create CAD technical documentation, including 3D models and 2D drawings, utilizing advanced CAD software.
  • Devise engineering solutions for intricate mechanical challenges related to rotary and fixed-wing aircraft, considering factors such as weight, thermal dynamics, vibration, corrosion, and airworthiness.
  • Conduct classical stress analysis and Finite Element Analysis.
  • Draft specifications, engineering analyses, and reports necessary for achieving airworthiness certification.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing engineering to identify efficiencies early in the design process.
  • Assist manufacturing engineering during the production phase.
  • Organize and deliver both formal and informal design reviews.
  • Communicate effectively with Airworthiness Authorities.
  • Support technical writers in the creation of installation instructions and maintenance work orders.
  • Provide engineering assistance during the prototype, validation, and verification stages of aircraft modifications.
  • Evaluate completed installations to ensure adherence to design specifications.
  • Facilitate component-level qualification testing.
  • Assist in system and aircraft-level functional and airworthiness testing.
  • Mentor junior mechanical engineers.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • May report to an executive or manager.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline is preferred.
  • A minimum of 12 years of relevant experience is required.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles.
  • Experience in designing aircraft structures, including sheet metal, machined, and composite components and assemblies.
  • Knowledge of aircraft structures, load paths, and crash load design considerations.
  • Familiarity with material selection processes as outlined in the Metallic Material Properties Development and Standardization Handbook and Composite Materials Handbook.
  • Understanding of military and commercial aerospace practices, processes, specifications, and standards.
  • Knowledge of MIL-STD-31000 and ASME standards, including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing requirements.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks, AutoCAD, CATIA, and/or Creo CAD software, with a strong emphasis on SolidWorks.
  • Ability to draft and review airworthiness documents, plans, and testing procedures.
  • General knowledge of manufacturability of sheet metal, machined, and composite parts and assemblies.
  • High proficiency in conducting Classical Stress and Finite Element Analysis.
  • Familiarity with aircraft corrosion prevention methods and treatments.
  • Experience with DoD aircraft technical manuals.
  • Proven ability to develop DoD and/or FAA aircraft airworthiness certification substantiation analyses and reports.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, multi-tasking, customer-focused environment.
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Government Security Clearance.

  • Ability to walk and stand on level and/or inclined surfaces for extended periods.
  • Capability to climb stairs, ramps, ladders, and work stands, including working at heights with appropriate safety measures.
  • Ability to crouch, crawl, grasp or handle objects, utilize finger dexterity, bend elbows/knees, and reach above/below shoulders.
  • May need to lift up to 25 pounds and carry short distances.
  • Must be able to distinguish colors and assess three-dimensional depth.
  • Typically works in an office environment with controlled temperature.
