GENERAL OVERVIEW:

We are in search of a dedicated individual to fulfill the role of a Senior Mechanical Engineer. This position is pivotal in our efforts to integrate advanced avionics and weaponry into various aircraft platforms. Your mechanical engineering acumen will be essential in the design and development phases, potentially serving as the technical authority for projects throughout their lifecycle.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Encouragement of innovative thinking and creative problem-solving.
  • Create comprehensive CAD technical documentation, including 3D models and 2D schematics utilizing advanced CAD software.
  • Formulate design solutions for intricate mechanical challenges in rotary and fixed-wing aircraft, considering factors such as weight, thermal dynamics, vibration, corrosion resistance, and compliance with airworthiness standards.
  • Conduct classical stress assessments and Finite Element Analysis.
  • Draft specifications, engineering evaluations, and reports necessary for achieving airworthiness certification.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing engineering to pinpoint efficiencies early in the design process.
  • Assist manufacturing engineering during production phases.
  • Organize and present both formal and informal design reviews.
  • Communicate effectively with Airworthiness Authorities.
  • Support technical writers in the creation of installation instructions and maintenance work orders.
  • Provide engineering assistance during the prototype, validation, and verification stages of aircraft modifications.
  • Evaluate completed installations to ensure adherence to design specifications.
  • Facilitate component-level qualification testing.
  • Assist in system and aircraft-level functional and airworthiness testing.
  • Guide and mentor junior mechanical engineers.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.
  • May report to a senior executive or manager.
EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline is preferred.
  • A minimum of 12 years of relevant experience is essential.
  • Proficient understanding of mechanical engineering principles.
  • Experience in designing aircraft structures, including sheet metal, machined components, and composite assemblies.
  • Knowledge of aircraft structural integrity, load paths, and design considerations for crashworthiness.
  • Familiarity with material selection processes as outlined in the Metallic Material Properties Development and Standardization Handbook and Composite Materials Handbook.
  • Understanding of military and commercial aerospace standards, practices, and specifications.
  • Knowledge of relevant standards such as MIL-STD-31000 and ASME, including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing requirements.
  • Proficient in CAD software, particularly SolidWorks, AutoCAD, CATIA, and/or Creo, with a strong emphasis on SolidWorks.
  • Ability to draft and review airworthiness documentation, plans, and testing protocols.
  • General knowledge of manufacturability concerning sheet metal, machined, and composite components.
  • High proficiency in conducting Classical Stress and Finite Element Analysis.
  • Familiarity with aircraft corrosion prevention methods and treatments.
  • Knowledgeable in DoD aircraft technical documentation.
  • Experience in preparing airworthiness certification substantiation analyses and reports for DoD and/or FAA aircraft.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, multi-tasking, customer-focused environment while maintaining high performance standards.
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Government Security Clearance.
