POSITION SUMMARY - ESTIMATOR

The Penhall Company is seeking a qualified Estimator to enhance our operations.

With a legacy dating back to 1957, Penhall has established itself as a premier provider of concrete services across various sectors. Initially starting with a single flat saw operation, we have significantly expanded our offerings to include a comprehensive range of concrete solutions such as scanning, cutting, sawing, and breaking/removal. Currently, Penhall stands as the largest supplier of concrete services in the United States, operating from 43 locations across 21 states and Canada.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Engage with client management and personnel to communicate the company’s capabilities, policies, and resources.
  2. Generate new business opportunities by fostering and maintaining effective relationships with potential clients in the construction sector.
  3. Inform management about bidding opportunities and the timeline for proposal submissions.
  4. Identify and develop prospects from existing clients, referrals, and other sources. Participate in presentations to prospective clients and maintain strong client relationships.
  5. Possess a solid understanding of the sales process and effectively close sales in collaboration with sales and management teams.
  6. Review project specifications, drawings, and attend pre-bid meetings to ascertain the scope of work and necessary components for estimates.
  7. Assess client requirements and evaluate company resources to meet those needs.
  8. Maintain organized files of working documents to support estimate figures, including current pricing information from suppliers.
  9. Incorporate historical data from purchase orders and productivity reports into unit and man-hour estimates.
  10. Provide support to other departments as needed, which may include preparing estimates in different disciplines.
  11. Evaluate options and recommend optimal solutions based on cost, engineering quality, and material availability.
  12. Prepare comprehensive estimates for selected projects, ensuring detailed reviews of specifications and related documents.
  13. Offer insights and feedback on customer-related issues, ongoing projects, marketing initiatives, and sales support.
  14. Monitor awarded contracts as assigned, which may involve estimating additional work items and managing material procurement.
  15. Assist in developing and implementing the Strategic Business Plan and departmental sales objectives.
  16. Attend industry trade shows and conventions as required.
  17. Complete additional tasks as directed by supervisors.

Qualifications:

  1. Established network within the construction industry.
  2. Comprehensive knowledge of construction processes, equipment, methods, and safety protocols.
  3. A minimum of 5 years of experience in the construction field.
  4. A 4-year engineering degree or equivalent combination of technical training and experience.
  5. 2-5 years of experience in estimating, controls, or engineering related to similar construction fields.
  6. Experience in managing projects with budgets exceeding $1M.
  7. Advanced understanding of estimating techniques and cost control, with the ability to interpret computerized cost data.
  8. Capability to support estimation services for the sales team.
  9. Ability to conceptualize project schedules from initiation to completion.
  10. Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
  11. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  12. Fluency in English, with strong business writing and verbal communication skills.
  13. A valid driver's license and a clean driving record are required.
  14. Must be able to pass pre-employment and random drug screenings.
