Position Overview:
The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics is looking for a Lead Security Officer for Healthcare Facilities to oversee and guide the operations of security personnel, clerical staff, and temporary employees. This role is essential in fostering collaboration with various departments including dispatch, fire safety, nursing services, and university police to promote a secure environment within UI Health Care.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage daily security operations to ensure a safe atmosphere for all.
  • Assist in the coordination, scheduling, and management of the security team.
  • Support the recruitment, training, and development of new security staff.
  • Provide performance management and support for security personnel.
  • Supervise Hospital Security Officers, clerks, and temporary staff.
  • Delegate tasks and offer assistance to security team members.
  • Clearly communicate expectations and provide guidance during shifts.
  • Maintain communication with the Security Supervisor and Manager regarding operational matters.
  • Conduct performance evaluations for security officers.
  • Monitor security needs through regular patrols of the medical complex.
  • Engage with representatives from various hospital departments.
  • Review and approve reports submitted by security officers.
  • Evaluate service requests and collaborate with contractors as needed.
  • Authorize payroll, time-off requests, and other employee leave.
  • Prepare administrative reports related to payroll, overtime, and security incidents.
  • Participate in community service initiatives and work groups as required.
  • Conduct investigations and compile reports as necessary.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Full-time, 2nd Shift

Location: University Campus

Compensation and Benefits:
  • Regular salaried position located in Iowa City, Iowa.
  • Comprehensive benefits package including paid vacation, sick leave, and health insurance options.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Five years of experience in security or law enforcement, with at least three years comparable to Hospital Security Officer duties.
  • Ability to obtain Supervisor certification from the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) within six months of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 1-3 years of supervisory experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in various computer software applications.
  • Knowledge of security and law enforcement protocols.
  • Experience with security systems such as C-Cure, Perspective, and Victor.
  • Training in Crisis Intervention Techniques (CIT).
  • CPR and CPI certifications.
  • IAHSS certification.
