Job Summary

The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Hospital Security Officer to join our team. As a key member of our security team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of patients, employees, and visitors on our campus.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough investigations of incidents and prepare accurate reports
  • Enforce hospital regulations, guidelines, and policies to maintain a safe and secure environment
  • Respond to routine and emergency calls for service, including disasters, fires, and other critical situations
  • Patrol areas as assigned to ensure personal, building, and equipment security
  • Perform inspections of fire extinguishers, emergency lights, exit lights, sprinkler systems, and other safety equipment
  • Prepare daily reports of shift activity and provide written communication to other safety and security officers as needed
  • Provide emergency response as requested or needed, including disasters, fires, and other critical situations
  • Provide information and assistance to patients, visitors, and employees
  • Provide escort service, lockouts, jump starts, and other support as requested
  • Provide traffic control and enforcement measures on all University-owned or operated property
  • Receive and inventory property found in the hospital and properly enter it into the lost and found system
  • Transfer deposits between the hospital and financial institutions to maintain security of funds
Requirements
  • Two years' experience in security and safety, or fire safety, or law enforcement
  • One year of post-high school education related to security and safety and one year of experience in security and safety
  • Two years of post-high school education related to security and safety
  • Possession of an appropriate driver's license and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Standards
  • Ability to obtain basic certification from the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) within 6 months of hire and maintain certification for duration of employment
Desirable Requirements
  • Two years of customer service experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office computer software applications
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
