Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Cook to join our team at Jefferson Health. As a key member of our culinary team, you will be responsible for preparing high-quality food that meets the standards of our patients, patrons, and catering guests.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare food according to standard recipes and ensure superior quality, meeting standards for flavor, texture, appearance, temperature, nutritional value, and palatability.
  • Interact with co-workers, visitors, and other staff in a professional and courteous manner, consistent with the values of Jefferson.
  • Competently prepare select foods for patients, staff, and visitors, ensuring the highest quality, visually and taste.
  • Professionally braise, sauté, broil, boil, stew, steam, bake, and grill food to proper cooking time and temperature, safely holding food at all times.
  • Prepare and portion entrees, soups, and sauces and vegetables according to recipes and production orders, recording usage on production records to ensure correct food preparation and cost control.
  • Assemble ingredients and prepare recipes, portion, label, and date for storage or transport.
  • Maintain proper handling, storage, cooling, and delivery of food and supplies to ensure patient/customer safety, using HACCP guidelines.
  • Maintain proper HACCP and production records.
  • Check on food during service in patient and non-patient areas to ensure no delays in service.
  • Plan cooking and prepping schedule to ensure foods are ready at specified times.
  • Adhere to food quality standards of appearance, taste, temperature, and sanitation.
  • Store leftovers appropriately and utilize them in subsequent days/menu to ensure they are served within timeframe.
  • Complete cleaning assignments to ensure sanitation standards are maintained in cooking and serving areas.
  • Participate in and attend all department in-services to maintain department operating standards.
Requirements
  • Knowledge of providing, preparing, and serving inpatient meals, supplements, and menu selection services.
  • Knowledge of storage, preparation, and maintenance of food services area for hospital facility.
  • Knowledge of care and maintenance of food and related equipment for delivering of meals.
  • Knowledge of proper care and maintenance of food preparation areas.
  • Knowledge of the principles for developing and maintaining a healthy diet.
  • High School graduate or equivalent preferred, but not required.
  • 3+ years previous experience in food preparation required.
