Medication Services Coordinator

The Medication Services Coordinator (MSC) operates under the guidance of Clinical Pharmacists to deliver pharmaceutical services with empathy, excellence, and efficiency. The MSC is tasked with overseeing orders received at the CHRISTUS Specialty Pharmacy and acting as a bridge between patients, insurance plans, healthcare providers, and the pharmacy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Meets the standards of the relevant OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Self-Leadership, Leadership of Others, or Leadership of Leaders.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Conducts data entry and verifies patient benefit eligibility.
- Completes prior authorization requests, submits them to insurance, and confirms their completion.
- Facilitates appeals processes.
- Acts as an intermediary between patients and insurance providers, ensuring effective communication among patients, physicians, medical personnel, and administrative staff.
- Responds to patient inquiries regarding billing, procedures, policies, and available services.
- Handles incoming and outgoing communications from clients concerning medication delivery, setup, and related services.
- Coordinates financial arrangements and collects co-payments.
- Adheres strictly to established policies and procedures.
- Ensures safe, appropriate, and cost-effective medication therapies for patients in accordance with established guidelines.
- Accurately reads, extracts, and interprets information from patient medical records.
- Identifies and reports suspected adverse drug reactions promptly and accurately.
- Coordinates pharmacist-led medication education for patients and their families following institutional protocols.
- Engages in quality improvement initiatives within the department.
- Contributes to the effective and quality operation of the department.
- Demonstrates punctuality and reliability; adheres to scheduled work hours. Attendance and tardiness are managed within policy guidelines.
- Maintains a professional and well-groomed appearance, including wearing an identification badge.
- Completes tasks within designated timeframes and adapts positively to frequent interruptions and changes in workload or schedule.
- Provides courteous, cooperative, and timely service to patients, visitors, and staff.
- Exhibits strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Collaborates effectively with hospital and pharmacy personnel, voicing concerns and suggestions positively to foster a team environment.
- Demonstrates sound professional judgment consistent with clinical and academic training.
- Maintains strict confidentiality regarding patient, guest, and employee information.
- Complies with all regulations related to risk management, safety, security, fire, and infection control.
- Adheres to hospital and departmental policies and procedures, complying with all applicable federal and state laws, rules, and regulations.
- Works independently with minimal supervision, organizing and prioritizing work assignments effectively.
- Ensures timely provision of pharmacy services.
- Answers phone calls, identifying self and department, and directs calls to the appropriate personnel.
High School diploma or equivalent required.
Minimum of 2 years of experience in a community pharmacy or health plan.
Experience in third-party billing and benefits investigation is required.
Specialty pharmacy experience is preferred.
Familiarity with QS1 billing software, EPIC EMR, and CoverMyMeds is preferred.
Registered pharmacy technician in the state of practice is required.
Certified pharmacy technician is preferred.
