Overview:
The Pharmacy Services Coordinator (PSC) operates under the guidance of Clinical Pharmacists to deliver pharmacy services with dedication, quality, and efficiency. The PSC is tasked with overseeing orders received at the CHRISTUS Specialty Pharmacy and acting as a bridge between patients, healthcare plans, providers, and the pharmacy.
Key Responsibilities:
• Upholds the standards of the OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Conducts data entry and verifies patient benefit eligibility.
• Completes prior authorization requests, submits them to insurance, and confirms their completion.
• Manages appeals processes.
• Serves as a liaison between patients and insurance providers, facilitating communication among patients, physicians, medical staff, and administrative personnel.
• Addresses patient inquiries regarding billing, procedures, policies, and available services.
• Handles incoming and outgoing calls from customers concerning medication delivery, setup, and related services.
• Coordinates financial arrangements and collects co-payments.
• Adheres strictly to established policies and procedures.
• Ensures safe, appropriate, and cost-effective medication therapies for patients in accordance with established protocols.
• Accurately reads, extracts, and interprets information from patient medical records.
• Identifies and reports suspected adverse drug reactions promptly and accurately.
• Facilitates pharmacist-led medication education for patients and their families as per institutional guidelines.
• Engages in quality improvement initiatives within the department.
• Contributes to the effective operation and quality of the department.
• Demonstrates punctuality and reliability; adheres to scheduled work hours. Attendance and tardiness comply with policy guidelines.
• Maintains a professional appearance and wears identification as required.
• Completes tasks within designated timeframes and adapts positively to frequent interruptions and changes in workload.
• Provides courteous, cooperative, and timely service to patients, visitors, and staff.
• Exhibits strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Collaborates effectively with hospital and pharmacy personnel, expressing concerns and suggestions positively to foster a team-oriented environment.
• Demonstrates sound professional judgment consistent with clinical and academic background.
• Maintains strict confidentiality regarding patient, guest, and employee information.
• Complies with all risk management, safety, security, fire, and infection control protocols.
• Adheres to hospital and departmental policies and procedures, as well as applicable Federal and State laws and regulations.
• Works independently with minimal supervision and effectively organizes and prioritizes work assignments.
• Ensures timely provision of pharmacy services.
• Answers phone calls, identifies self and department, and directs calls to the appropriate personnel.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a community pharmacy or health plan.
- Experience in third-party billing and benefits investigation is required.
- Specialty pharmacy experience is preferred.
- Familiarity with QS1 billing software, EPIC EMR, and CoverMyMeds is preferred.
- Registered pharmacy technician in the state of practice is required.
- Certification as a pharmacy technician is preferred.
