The Insurance Risk Evaluator position at Ameriprise Financial is a critical role that requires expertise in underwriting insurance applications within strict guidelines. This position involves direct collaboration with field advisors and clients to determine insurability and categorize risks to determine the appropriate premium and rating class.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review applications from advisors to determine insurability and categorize the risk to determine the appropriate premium and rating class.
  • Review and assess medical and non-medical requirements, partnering with the medical director, leadership, and peers as needed to determine insurability.
  • Direct contact with the field to gather financial and medical information on clients, communicate underwriting risk assessment decisions, and assist the field throughout the insurance process.
  • Provide formal mentoring of less experienced underwriters, co-signing on all policies up to $5,000,000 on life insurance and $8,000.00 monthly benefit on disability amounts for underwriter trainees.
  • Travel to field offices or present via Web-ex, conference calls, or other available technology for coaching, training, and relationship building with advisors.
  • Quality assurance reviewing randomly selected cases completed by a specific underwriter that have a higher premium value, reviewing for appropriate thought process and risk assessment decision, and providing coaching and feedback.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
  • 5-7 years of relevant experience with Individual Life and/or Disability Underwriting.
  • Demonstrated decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills.
  • Ability to coach and mentor others.
