Welding Technician Trainee - 2nd Shift Work Schedule:

The Welding Technician Trainee will be accountable for the local delivery and execution of fit-up, fabrication, and core welding tasks to vendors and management in alignment with Johnson Controls principles, corporate policies, and operational procedures. This role encompasses a variety of employment-related functions aimed at enhancing employee engagement, safety, health, productivity, and ensuring compliance with company policies within a manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

• The Welding Technician Trainee will leverage a minimum of 6 months of MIG welding experience in product applications.

• Operate Miller Aluma Pro Mig gun effectively, applying fit-up, fabrication, and welding disciplines into standard models.

• Utilize manual and semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments through processes such as GMAW and Plasma Cutting.

• Operate manual and semi-automatic flame-cutting tools.

• Adhere to safe work practices consistently.

• Conduct technical inspections and assessments.

• Prepare input for various management and log reports.

• Interpret and review blueprints and specifications; ensure drawings and specifications function as intended in the designated environment.

• Guarantee accuracy and completion of assigned tasks and projects.

• Maintain detailed and accurate records and documentation.

• Stay informed on advancements in technology, compliance, and repair/rework techniques.

• Complete motor coupling installations as required.

• Engage in training programs as a trainee or trainer as necessary.

• Promote and practice 5S methodologies throughout the facility.

• Participate in continuous improvement events.

• Undertake other assigned tasks as required.

Qualifications

• Successfully passed 2G plate welding test and 6G short arc pipe welding test within Johnson Controls.

• Proficient in the use of various hand tools, machinery, and equipment necessary for metal fabrication.

• Standard knowledge of blueprints is essential.

• Collaborate with supervisors and lead personnel to ensure continuous improvements in work cells, meeting quotas, and welding according to established parameters using GMAW processes.

• Ability to log in and out of work orders is mandatory.

• Strong knowledge and skill in operating all metalworking machinery are required.

• Must be able to read and comprehend production drawings, blueprints, work orders, and other written instructions.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 6 months of MIG Alloy and Steel welding experience.

• Adhere to Operation Description Sheet (ODS) and Training Documents.

• High School Diploma, GED, or relevant certifications.

• Comply with all safety policies and protocols.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certification from a welding technical school.

• Experience with GMAW and TIG welding processes.

• At least 1 year of experience as a welder.

• Familiarity with routine maintenance operations.

• Highly adaptable with strong interpersonal skills for effective collaboration in diverse environments.

• Ability to perform well under pressure.

• Demonstrated sensitivity, tact, diplomacy, and professionalism in interactions.
