Position Summary:

Sterling Engineering Inc. is actively seeking a Mechanical Assembler to join our team. This role is essential for ensuring the efficient assembly and testing of locomotive engine components.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assemble and test parts and components for locomotive engines.
  • Utilize knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and welding processes.
  • Interpret schematics and blueprints, and perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
  • Adhere to verbal and written work instructions and quality standards.
Advanced Responsibilities:
  • Assemble components for locomotive alternators.
  • Secure sub-assembly parts using bolts, screws, and other fasteners.
  • Install electrical wiring harnesses and hydraulic lines.
  • Prepare engines for testing by filling with necessary fluids.
  • Operate engine testing equipment and conduct pressure decay tests.
  • Diagnose and repair malfunctions to meet quality standards.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on machinery, including checking oil levels and air pressures.
  • Troubleshoot assembly issues and quality concerns related to new parts.
  • Prepare units for painting and ensure they are free of leaks.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Vocational training and technical certifications preferred.
  • Basic computer skills for data entry.
  • Experience operating forklifts and cranes.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities in a manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with industrial equipment and assembly processes.
  • Ability to read and understand complex instructions and technical documents.
  • Experience with industrial painting systems and coatings.
  • Effective communication skills for presenting information clearly.
