Position Summary
The Physician Affiliate Group of New York (PAGNY) is seeking a dedicated Pharmacy Technician to support the Division of Correctional Health Services (CHS) within the New York City Health + Hospitals system. This role is vital in ensuring the provision of comprehensive medical and mental health care to individuals within the correctional system, addressing a wide spectrum of health needs, including serious mental health conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage technical tasks associated with unit dose and outpatient medication distribution systems.
- Assist in maintaining accurate patient medication profiles by updating the pharmacist on any changes.
- Prepare and label patient medication cassettes and discharge medications according to established protocols.
- Coordinate with external methadone clinics to verify patient medication history.
- Ensure proper documentation and confidentiality in all pharmacy-related activities.
- Conduct regular inspections of drug storage areas to maintain compliance with safety standards.
- Facilitate the distribution of medications to patients, ensuring proper identification and adherence to protocols.
- Utilize pharmacy and medical computer systems for data entry and retrieval as directed.
- Participate in quality assurance initiatives to enhance patient care and medication management.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of an accredited Pharmacy Technician Training program or equivalent experience.
- Certification as a pharmacy technician by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) is required for new hires.
- Strong knowledge of pharmaceutical terminology and drug classifications.
- Proficient in using office equipment and pharmacy management software.
- Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
