Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated School Nurse to join our team at Lamar CISD. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality nursing care to students, promoting health education, and collaborating with teachers and parents to ensure the well-being of our students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide emergency care for students, including first aid and referrals to medical professionals as needed.
  • Assess students with known health problems and provide health appraisals, including vision, hearing, and spinal screening.
  • Dispense medication according to law and district policy.
  • Promote health education and act as a resource to teachers, promoting optimum health for students.
  • Perform health screening and complete forms for students referred or reevaluated for Special Education Services.
  • Provide health counseling for students with health problems.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited professional nursing program.
  • Valid registered nurse license to practice professional nursing in Texas from the State Board of Nurse Examiners.
  • Certified by the Texas Department of Health to conduct vision and hearing screening and trained in scoliosis screening.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Valid Texas driver's license.
  • Eligible for coverage under the District's vehicle insurance program.
Working Conditions

The School Nurse will work in a fast-paced environment, interacting with students, teachers, and parents. The successful candidate must be able to concentrate, communicate effectively, and maintain emotional control under stress. The position requires light lifting and carrying, sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, and pushing. The School Nurse may be required to travel occasionally within the district.
