Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Chassis Development Engineer to join our team at HITACHI ASTEMO AMERICAS, INC. This individual will be responsible for leading the development of vehicle dynamics attributes, tuning events, and delivering high-quality products to our customers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute vehicle dynamics strategies to meet customer requirements.
  • Lead tuning events and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver best-in-class ride performance.
  • Work with customers to understand their needs and develop solutions that meet their expectations.
  • Collaborate with the Vehicle Development team to develop new technology, demo cars, and advanced systems.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with customers, colleagues, and team members.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines.
  • Develop and implement test and tuning processes, procedures, and documentation.
  • Build and test shock absorbers to support customer tuning activity and lab testing.
  • Operate computer-controlled test equipment and data acquisition systems.
  • Troubleshoot and problem-solve technical challenges.
  • Lead or participate in creative brainstorming sessions to solve technical challenges.
  • Maintain accurate damper change logs and tuning reports.
  • Manage travel and work on an international basis for 2-3-week periods with minimal support.
Requirements
  • Expert knowledge of vehicle dynamics, shock performance, and control logic.
  • Proficient knowledge of shock fundamentals, concepts, and performance.
  • Expert knowledge of vehicle dynamics and objective/subjective vehicle evaluation.
  • Proficient knowledge of control logic for semi-active dampers.
  • Deep understanding of shock dynos and interpretation of dyno data.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Matlab.
  • Proficient in data acquisition systems, sensors, and analysis software.
  • Understanding of algorithm tuning.
  • Strong software skills in system development and ride tuning tools.
  • Highly detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to apply work methods to maximize efficiency and minimize errors.
  • Able to work effectively and accurately amidst distractions.
  • Able to perform light physical work consistently and lift up to 75 pounds occasionally.
  • Excellent work ethics and teamwork skills.
  • Hands-on and self-motivated.
  • Ability to travel and work on an international basis for 2-3-week periods with minimal support.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or related field of study.
  • 5+ years of experience in Vehicle Dynamics or Chassis components with a minimum of 3 – 5 years of applicable experience in damper tuning.
Working Conditions
  • Required to sit or stand for long periods of time.
  • The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
  • Domestic and international travel may be required as needed (up to 50%).
  • Hybrid working environment.
