Key Responsibilities- Provide administrative support to the Transit Manager, including answering telephones, writing reports, and handling routine requests.
- Respond promptly and professionally to customer service requests, both in-person and over the phone.
- Assist with the preparation of work assignments for division personnel and operators.
- Adjust special needs schedules based on customer calls and notify operators of changes.
- Troubleshoot problems encountered while providing service and assist in resolving identified issues.
- Discuss and assign work to meet customer service requests.
- Ensure all required reports are prepared and submitted on time and free of errors.
- Assist in the development and delivery of training for the division and ensure office staff is performing according to operating procedures.
- Operate the base station radio communication system and respond to emergencies on the routes.
- Record information about road conditions and reroute buses as necessary.
- Assist with dispatch duties and paratransit driving as needed.
- In the absence of the Transit Manager, assist in investigating accidents involving transit system vehicles and assist bus operators in preparing accident reports.
- In the absence of the Transit Manager, investigate citizen complaints involving transit vehicles and employees.
- Ensure citizens receive correct information in a courteous, clear, and professional manner.
- Forward questions or complaints of a particularly complex or difficult nature to the Transit Manager.
- Assist with SunTran bus ticket sales and keep maps/schedules stocked at various locations.
- Assist with collecting data for the planning and scheduling of service.
- Assist with conducting outreach activities of the division.
- Assist with distributing customer literature as required.
- Provide general transit service information.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of two (2) years full-time experience performing customer service and secretary functions.
- Previous experience in dispatching and/or scheduling is desirable.
- Valid driver's license and ability to obtain a Utah Driver License within 60 days of hire.
- Paratransit Eligibility Certification within 6 months of date of hire.
Comfortable working conditions. Intermittent sitting, standing, and walking. When paratransit pickups are needed, the operator is required to get in and out of the vehicle with some bending/stooping, crouching, kneeling, and reaching necessary. Must be able to push a wheelchair or other mobility device up a ramp or brace it going down the ramp.
When performing assessments, must be able to walk up to a mile or more. Intermittent exposure to stress as a result of human behavior. Some irregular working hours may be required. May work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions, including cold, extreme heat, and rain when responding to accident scenes, operating paratransit van, or when supervising and/or assisting transit drivers.
