We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Occupational Safety Specialist IV or V to join our team at the Texas Department of Transportation. Key Responsibilities- Assist in implementing and monitoring the Department's safety program to reduce or eliminate occupational incidents, injuries, illnesses, deaths, and financial losses.
- Develop, implement, and monitor safety policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Conduct safety needs surveys, analyze reported incident frequency rates, and identify injury types and incident causes.
- Develop and present information on various safety programs, projects, and activities to executives, departmental staff, and professional meetings, seminars, and conferences.
- Represent the Department in a professional manner on occupational safety matters.
- Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Safety, Industrial Technology, Business Administration, or related discipline.
- 5 years of occupational safety, industrial hygiene, or related work experience.
- Valid driver's license and Safety Impact Certificate.
- OSHA 500 Trainer Course in Construction and OSHA 501 Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for General Industry.
- Professional safety designations such as Advanced Safety Certificate (ASC), General Industry/Construction Industry Outreach Instructor, or Certified Safety and Health Official (CSHO).
The selected candidate will work in a fast-paced environment with frequent travel to various locations. The position requires standing for prolonged periods, repetitive motion, and close visual acuity.
