Job Overview:

LSU Alexandria is looking for a dedicated individual to fill the role of Custodian 2.

This position is classified under Civil Service, and no Civil Service test score is necessary for consideration.

Job Responsibilities for Custodian 2:

GENERAL:

This position involves working as part of a Custodial Crew to maintain the cleanliness of Academic and Administrative buildings, serving over 2,500 students and 220 faculty and staff.

Tasks are performed in various nontraditional settings, including specialized computer labs, laboratories, libraries, and studios, requiring a higher skill level than those of a Custodian 1.

Frequent interaction with faculty, staff, and students is expected, along with regular contact with the general public during educational programs and events. A comprehensive understanding of campus infrastructure, programs, and services is necessary.

Participation in specialized maintenance, safety, and training programs is required. The quality of service provided is crucial to the university's contractual obligations through private grants and federal programs.

Inadequate or improperly executed services can adversely affect academic activities and result in significant financial implications.

The position demands the ability to work independently, exercising sound judgment based on experience and knowledge of campus facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • 30% Maintain cleanliness in laboratories, studios, and assigned areas through sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and polishing, often requiring specialized knowledge.
  • 20% Manage waste disposal, including recycling and bio-hazardous materials, ensuring compliance with standards.
  • 15% Perform floor maintenance, including stripping, waxing, and polishing using industrial equipment.
  • 10% Operate cleaning equipment for carpets and respond to water-related incidents.
  • 10% Clean windows, walls, and building entrances, ensuring a welcoming environment.
  • 5% Secure campus buildings, managing issued keys responsibly.
  • 5% Set up furniture for events and assist with various tasks as needed.

Additional responsibilities may include reporting maintenance issues, conducting energy audits, and maintaining custodial equipment.

Safety equipment must be worn as instructed, and any hazards should be reported to a supervisor.

Perform any other custodial duties necessary to uphold cleanliness and sanitary conditions.



Additional Information:

This position is classified as Custodian 2 and is essential for maintaining the university's facilities.

Job Distinctions:
This role differs from Custodian 1 by requiring experienced-level custodial tasks and from Custodian 3 by not involving advanced-level tasks.

Qualifications:
Six months of experience in custodial, housekeeping, or related fields is required.
