Position Overview:
The role of the Senior Fleet Maintenance Specialist is crucial for ensuring the operational efficiency of the city's vehicle fleet. This position is responsible for executing both technical and skilled maintenance and repairs on a diverse range of city-owned vehicles, including heavy-duty trucks, buses, emergency response vehicles, and other essential equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
Under the guidance of the Fleet Maintenance Supervisor, the incumbent will:
- Conduct comprehensive overhauls and minor repairs on various automotive and mechanical systems, including engines, transmissions, electrical systems, and brake systems.
- Utilize advanced diagnostic tools and computer systems to identify mechanical issues, initiate work orders, and procure necessary parts.
- Employ a variety of mechanical tools to perform maintenance tasks and repairs effectively.
- Execute minor welding and fabrication of components as required.
- Perform road tests on vehicles to verify the completion and quality of repairs.
- Carry out preventive maintenance on all fleet vehicles and equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Adhere to established safety protocols and manage the disposal of hazardous materials in compliance with environmental regulations.
Additional Duties:
The role may also involve responding to service calls, operating a wrecker for towing disabled vehicles, and providing on-site repairs as necessary. The specialist will conduct vehicle inspections and maintain accurate records of maintenance and repairs. Additionally, the operation of a forklift may be required.
