Job Summary

Portland Community Reinvestment Initiatives, Inc (PCRI) is seeking a highly motivated and organized Human Resources Assistant to join our team. The successful candidate will provide administrative support and HR-related services to staff, assist department directors with HR and administrative needs, and maintain confidentiality and support personnel in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support employee benefit programs, serve as liaison for benefit administration, and provide employee relations support to managers and staff.
  • Protect confidential information, build HR's reputation as an objective, helpful, and trustworthy resource for all staff, and support the maintenance of confidential HR files and records system.
  • Assist departmental directors in performance evaluation system, serve as administrative hub for recruitment and hiring, and develop hiring timelines with managers.
  • Support onboarding/employee orientation for new staff in PCRI's organizational culture, and HR policies, procedures, benefits, and coordinate relevant meetings with managers.
  • Answer frequently asked questions from applicants and employees relative to standard policies, benefits, hiring processes, etc., and refer more complex questions to appropriate senior-level HR staff or management.
  • Perform periodic audits of HR files and records to ensure that all required documents are collected and filed appropriately, and may assist with payroll functions, including processing, answering employee questions, fixing processing errors, and distributing checks.
  • Receive and distribute office mail, schedule and organize appointments, take minutes during departmental meetings, proofread and type documents and correspondence produced by department, and process required paperwork for employee transfers, changes in job classification, salary increases, and other related employment matters.
Requirements
  • A minimum 1-3 years of experience in Human Resources, Benefits Administration, Human Development within a nonprofit or for-profit organization related to providing Affordable Housing Developments, Property Management, and Resident Services to communities.
  • Associate degree in business, non-profit management, human resources preferred.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, proactive communicator, and experience working with a Human Resource Information System.
  • Experience in Recruitment best practices and following organizational policies and guidelines, and proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to regularly walk up and down stairs up to 8 hours per day.
  • Must have the ability to stoop, twist, reach, and pull.
  • Must be able to sit and/or stand for up to 8 hours a day.
  • The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as viewing a computer terminal and extensive reading.
