The Query Science team plays a pivotal role in eBay's Search product, comprised of dedicated professionals focused on enhancing the efficiency and enjoyment of the shopping experience. Innovation drives our efforts, as we strive to understand buyer intent and behavior to refine our services and elevate the e-commerce landscape.
Role Overview:
The Search Query Science team significantly influences eBay's search and query processing, contributing to a substantial portion of revenue. We are expanding rapidly and are in search of talented applied researchers who can think creatively and work diligently. Our team tackles core e-commerce search challenges, including query rewriting, annotation, classification, and recovery, utilizing advanced machine learning algorithms designed to interpret large-scale user behavior.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop scientifically valid solutions that provide tangible benefits to eBay customers.
- Design, implement, and enhance algorithms and models for Natural Language Processing (NLP), Embedding Based Retrieval (EBR), semantic search, and machine learning to optimize query understanding and retrieval.
- Stay updated on the latest advancements in NLP, machine learning, and search technologies, applying innovative methods to continuously enhance the search experience.
- Collaborate with various teams to promote standard scientific methodologies within your domain.
- Present significant technical and novel research findings at public forums and conferences.
Qualifications:
- 1-3 years of industry experience with a PhD or 3-5 years with a Master's degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Information Retrieval, or a related field, focusing on NLP or machine learning.
- Practical experience in classification, regression, NLP, clustering, Deep Learning, Neural Networks, or related areas.
- Strong foundation in machine learning and NLP, with a proven track record of applying these techniques to large-scale, real-world challenges.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, coupled with a creative approach to complex issues.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, Scala, or C/C++, along with experience in machine learning frameworks and big data processing tools like Hadoop, SQL, and Spark.
- Strong communication skills, with proficiency in English.
