Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our NDT New Technologies Team at General Dynamics Electric Boat. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for leading research and development efforts to test and implement emerging Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) methods for use in our shipyards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify and Evaluate Emerging Technologies: Research and identify commercially available technologies that may be tested and tailored to existing Navy shipbuilding specifications or used to develop new Navy shipbuilding specification requirements.
  • Collaborate with Cross-Functional Teams: Integrate with our team of NDT Engineers and support existing project tasking, while also developing R&D project proposals, test plans, and schedules.
  • Lead Cross-Functional Teams: Interface with and lead cross-functional teams of Engineers, NDT Level III Examiners, and submarine construction subject matter experts to drive project success.
  • Provide Guidance and Support: Provide guidance to team-members and Electric Boat Management regarding NDT New Technology projects, and participate in Electric Boat Senior Management briefs regarding NDT New Technology implementation strategies.
  • Interface with Navy Customer: Interface with Electric Boat's Navy customer and gain alignment on project scope, funding, testing, and shipyard implementation strategies.
  • Support Special Projects: Support special-projects tasking for Manager of NDT Engineering related to shipyard NDT execution and/or risk management.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or Physics.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Master of Science or Ph.D degree with demonstrated research focus related to NDT, previous leadership or supervisory experience, experience in the Naval shipbuilding or regulatory market space, Active or previous NDT Level II or III certifications, experience interfacing with Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), research & development experience, experience with statistics or data analytics.
