Role Overview
As a Clinical Support Technician in the ICU, you will play a vital role in assisting healthcare professionals in delivering exceptional patient care. Your responsibilities will include:
- Transporting patients and equipment, ensuring a smooth workflow within the unit.
- Setting up and maintaining patient rooms to provide a comfortable environment.
- Performing a variety of clerical tasks, including managing the patient care unit desk area.
- Assisting physicians and healthcare providers during routine examinations and procedures.
- Critically reviewing patient care documentation and promptly reporting any significant changes in patient conditions to registered nurses or physicians.
Clerical and Administrative Support
Your role will also encompass a range of clerical duties, such as:
- Organizing and prioritizing your workload effectively.
- Greeting and directing visitors to ensure a welcoming atmosphere.
- Researching information as requested by nursing staff and physicians.
- Reviewing and revising orders for clarity and logic.
- Transcribing physician orders and maintaining accurate medical records.
Quality Assurance and Inventory Management
You will be responsible for performing routine quality assurance audits, safety checks, and managing supply inventories to ensure optimal operational efficiency.
Clinical Support Duties
In addition to clerical tasks, you will provide essential clinical support, including:
- Maintaining cleanliness in the work area and office equipment.
- Troubleshooting common software and hardware issues.
- Changing linens and checking supply inventory.
- Transporting patients, supplies, and specimens as needed.
- Assisting in the orientation of new employees and students.
Patient Care Responsibilities
You may also be involved in:
- Specimen collection and basic wound care.
- Conducting capillary blood glucose checks and skin preps.
- Reinforcing routine patient education provided by registered nurses or physicians.
Qualifications
To be considered for this position, candidates should possess:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification.
- One year of clerical or customer service experience, along with six months of relevant nursing assistant experience.
- Fluency in verbal and written English.
- The ability to develop computer skills if not already proficient.
