Position Summary: The core duties of this role encompass:

Laramie County Community College is dedicated to the success of its students and aims to cultivate exceptional faculty within the community college framework. The primary responsibilities of instructional faculty include delivering assigned courses, being accessible to students, and collaborating on departmental goals when necessary. Furthermore, all faculty members align their efforts with the College's mission, vision, and values to enhance their professional development as educators and specialists in their respective fields. Faculty also engage in collaborative and collegial relationships throughout the institution. LCCC supports adjunct faculty by fostering an environment conducive to high-quality teaching and learning, providing necessary classroom resources and materials, and addressing the challenges encountered in the teaching process.

Effective management of LCCC's resources is a key responsibility of the administration. Consequently, the College reserves the right to modify course assignments as required. Full-time faculty members with less than a full teaching load may be assigned to courses initially designated for adjunct instructors. All changes to teaching assignments will be communicated prior to the commencement of classes. The Adjunct Instructor position is part-time, non-benefitted, and employed on a course-by-course basis without any obligation for future employment, offering competitive compensation.

Adjunct faculty are required to inform the dean of their respective school if they hold another position at LCCC.

Additional responsibilities may be assigned based on the evolving needs of the institution.

Compensation: $850 per credit hour.

Key Responsibilities:

Essential Functions: This position is Exempt and is not eligible for compensatory or overtime pay under the FLSA. The following duties are representative but not exhaustive; additional tasks may be assigned.

Faculty are expected to employ effective teaching methodologies alongside the development and utilization of suitable educational materials, delivery techniques, and assessment practices. Responsibilities include:

Teaching:

  • Deliver assigned classes according to the course plan and schedule (primarily evenings and weekends) and fulfill required contact hours unless otherwise approved by the supervisor.
  • Conduct classes in accordance with the approved Master Course Outline of Record (MCOR) and provide a current course plan for each course to the appropriate supervisor and faculty member.
  • Evaluate student performance fairly and consistently.

Curriculum Development:

  • Maintain and update curriculum to ensure it is current, effective, and aligned with course and program competencies.
  • Create and sustain instructional materials that support course and program competencies as outlined in the MCOR.

Instructional Delivery:

  • Foster a supportive learning environment that promotes student success.
  • Integrate current subject matter expertise into instruction.
  • Utilize diverse learning activities to enhance student engagement and success.
  • Employ relevant teaching tools, strategies, and classroom technologies.
  • Prepare and maintain classroom and/or lab facilities.

Assessment of Student Learning and Continuous Improvement:

  • Support student learning with timely feedback on progress and assist in meeting course competencies.
  • Adhere to College procedures, practices, and deadlines related to instructional delivery, assessment, and reporting requirements.

Communication:

  • Utilize official communication channels to interact with students, colleagues, and supervisors.
  • Respond to student inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Be available to assist students with questions regarding the class or materials.

Training:

  • Maintain current subject matter expertise and expand knowledge through professional development.
  • Comply with minimum faculty qualifications and credentials, and maintain required certifications as applicable.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

All faculty at LCCC are expected to demonstrate proficiency in competency areas defined in the College's Administrative Procedure. Required knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position include:

Knowledge:

  • Best practices in instructional strategies and content delivery.
  • Course preparation and classroom management.
  • Curriculum development and assessment strategies.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in using learning management systems.
  • Competence in personal computing applications, particularly Microsoft Office Suite.

Abilities:

  • Manage classroom dynamics effectively.
  • Recognize and celebrate diversity within the classroom.
  • Adapt practices in response to new information or student needs.

Physical/Mental Demands:

  • Maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information.
  • Comply with strict deadlines and manage multiple tasks.
  • Engage professionally with students and colleagues in various situations.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate degree from an accredited institution in a relevant field or industry credentials.
  • Two years of professional experience related to the field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Applicable industry certifications.
