Position Overview
The Plasma Collection Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring the integrity and quality of plasma collected from donors. This position involves meticulous sampling, testing, and the secure handling of plasma products.
Key Responsibilities
- Adhere to established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the collection and processing of plasma samples, ensuring optimal product quality.
- Manage the proper storage of plasma units, including the identification and segregation of unsuitable samples.
- Verify the accuracy of labeling on plasma units by cross-checking pre-printed labels with dynamic labels.
- Employ sterile techniques during sample collection and utilize heat sealing methods to maintain the sterility of plasma samples as per SOPs.
- Prepare samples and units for shipping in compliance with SOPs, including the completion of necessary documentation for disposal.
- Monitor and document the temperatures of freezers and refrigerators, promptly reporting any equipment malfunctions.
- Conduct daily equipment calibrations following SOP guidelines.
- Accurately input donor information into the electronic donor management system as required by SOPs.
- Familiarize yourself with policies related to hyper immune programs at the center, if applicable.
- Maintain a clean and efficient workspace, ensuring that all necessary supplies and forms are readily available. Adhere to Health Safety & Environmental (HSE) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards, promoting safety in all actions.
- Uphold confidentiality regarding all personnel, donor, and center information.
- Be open to cross-training in various roles to support business needs.
- Bilingual capabilities may be beneficial, depending on organizational requirements.
- Perform additional job-related tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
Education
A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
Experience
- Preferred: A minimum of three (3) months of experience in a laboratory or warehouse setting, or a comparable combination of education and experience.
- Basic math skills are necessary for this role.
Working Environment
Physical and mental requirements include:
- The ability to understand, remember, and apply both oral and written instructions.
- Following basic guidelines and instructions effectively.
- Interacting with customers and observing equipment operations.
- Performing tasks while standing and walking for extended periods.
- Reaching, bending, kneeling, and demonstrating a high level of manual dexterity.
- Occasionally lifting and carrying items weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Working in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.
- Exposure to hazardous chemicals, extreme temperatures, and blood-borne pathogens.
- Wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required for specific tasks or areas.
- Availability for overtime and extended hours to meet operational demands.
